Redesigning Nike’s Smartwatch Packaging (2014)

This project was oriented at working towards a valuable alternative of Nike’s Fuelband smartwatch packaging. An extensive research was conducted concerning Nike as a company, its competitors, and its users to formulate its added values. After this research initial ideas and features were suggested. These ideas involved innovation, sustainability, and motivation, this being Nike’s strategic elements.

Going through more idea generations and development processes, we ended up with two final concepts: a pouch bag packaging and a mushroom material packaging. The ideas were evaluated using tools such as the product, management and sustainable lifecycle, as well as the product structure.

The mushroom packaging was chosen as the final packaging because the strong presence of Nike’s values: sustainability and innovation. With the aim to understand potential customer behaviour, a user evaluation was conducted. As a result, considering the feedback and test outcomes, a final prototype was designed. It captures the sum of values defined throughout the process, such as innovation and sustainability, strongly linked with the company strategy and consumer needs.
